EXCLUSIVE: Cole Palmer's superb form this season looks set to see him rewarded with a bumper new pay deal just 12 months after joining from Manchester City

Cole Palmer is set for a bumper pay rise at Chelsea.

The England playmaker joined the Blues last summer on a seven-year deal worth £75,000 a week following a £42.5million move from Manchester City. And with that now looking like a transfer bargain, the Chelsea hierarchy are preparing to reward his sensational first season in SW6 by handing him a significantly improved contract and salary.

Palmer, 21, can expect to pocket nearer £150k a week next season - which will put him closer to some of his underperforming, better paid colleagues. Despite Maurcio Pochettino’s young side struggling for long periods, the Blues playmaker has consistently proved the standout exception since his deadline day arrival from the Etihad.

He has rattled 15 goals in all this season, including 13 in 33 games for his new club. He has also provided 11 assists for the Londoners. Those numbers look certain to secure him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships.

And the sizzling stats also mean he will head off to the finals in Germany with a lucrative long-term contract on the table at Stamford Bridge. Before joining up with the Three Lions next week for the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, Palmer hopes to help keep Chelsea’s campaign alive with victory today over Leicester in the FA Cup.

Ahead of the quarter-final home tie against Enzo Maresca’s Championship leaders, Pochettino spoke of Cole’s incredible impact in the last six months. In a glowing assessment, the South American said: “The way he adapted really quick to a new club like Chelsea, adapted to the coaching staff and, of course, to deal with the pressure to play for a big club like Chelsea, I think that makes him special

“The most important thing is how he deals with the pressure because we have some amazing players but sometimes they struggle and they need time to deal with it. It’s amazing the way he adapted, feels like he’s 20 years here at this club, plays easy - and didn't feel the pressure to perform the way we expect as the quality is there.”
