Erik ten Hag is plotting an ambitious £80m swoop for Harry Kane when the summer transfer window opens with the England captain desperate to leave Tottenham Hotspur

Wantaway forward Harry Kane will push to force through a move from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The England captain, 29, is a priority target for Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona when the window opens in early June. But Manchester United are hoping to gazump Europe's top dogs by wrapping up an £80m deal "within weeks".

Erik ten Hag is known to be a huge admirer of the free-scoring forward. Kane recently overtook Wayne Rooney as the Three Lions' all-time record goalscorer having achieved the same feat at Tottenham earlier this season, and the Dutchman has made it clear to the Man Utd hierarchy he requires a world-class marksman. And it's understood Man Utd are Kane's first choice this summer.

Ten Hag is eager to capitalise on the turmoil in N17 to ensure Kane's wishes are granted this time around, with the England ace unable to push through a switch to Manchester City in 2021.

Daniel Levy's tight purse strings thwarted a move to the Premier League champions two years ago but managerless Spurs, perhaps without Champions League football, would be ill-placed to prevent Kane from pursuing his trophy ambition this time around.

The Tottenham star will be entering the final 12 months of his contract in June and the avaricious Levy will not want to see him walk out the door for nothing at the end of his deal.

Kane is still as ambitious as ever; the striker will turn 30 before the start of the 2023/24 campaign and is eager to overcome the trophy hoodoo that has seen silverware elude his glittering individual career.

Not reliant on pace or power, his goalscoring gift can still be fine-tuned to oversee the latter part of his career, but Kane still has many years left to bag the 57 needed to overtake Alan Shearer as the Premier League's leading goal-getter.

Man Utd's Carabao Cup win exonerated their own fears surrounding a lack of trophies in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. And with Kane up top, The Red Devils could end up back on top.
