Arsenal were able to overcome a nervy encounter with Wolves on Saturday evening as Daily Star Sport look at what Mikel Arteta got right and what he got wrong during the clash

Arsenal's litany of stars can tuck into their Christmas dinners happy, with the Gunners confirmed to be topping the table during the happiest time of the year.

The Gunners knew they could move five points clear of Manchester City - who dropped points to Brentford earlier in the day - if they beat Wolves. And Mikel Arteta's side overcame a nervy encounter with the bottom side to move clear at the top.

Despite the two-goal scoreline, Arsenal didn't have it all their own way - and even struggled at times. Daily Star Sport is looking at what Arteta got right and wrong on Saturday evening.
Trusting Martin Odegaard

Arteta has him a leader on the pitch in word and performance in the shape of Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian was once again spectacular for the Gunners - and he opened the scoring with Arsenal yet to hit top gear in the clash. Odegaard has been tipped to be a top talent ever since he moved to Real Madrid as a 16-year-old.

However, Arteta has managed to unlock the greatness in Odegaard this season, which he failed to display at Los Blancos, and he was at his very best against Wolves.

Managing without Granit Xhaka

Despite being public enemy No.1 a couple of seasons ago, Xhaka has transformed himself under the Spaniard. Arteta looked to his bench and called upon Fabio Vieira, who was able to fill the sizable hole left by Xhaka.

Vieira was even able to provide Odegaard with the assist for Arsenal's opener.
Struggling to manage expectations

Arsenal had numerous chances that they snatched at throughout the 90 minutes of their clash with Wolves.

Arteta wasn't able to calm the excitement of the Arsenal squad - who had the chance to go five points clear at the top of the table heading into Christmas. While there is still a long way to go at the turn of the new year, the table at Christmas is usually a good indicator.

The Gunners' inexperience was evident to see at points in the game - and it could prove cause for concern as games carry more and more pressure.

Gabriel Jesus was hailed as one of the signings of the summer earlier this season - but the Brazilian has since gone off the boil.

Jesus has now failed to find the back of the net in his last 11 appearances for the Gunners. While Jesus' threat has continued to transform Arsenal's attack, his continued struggles in front of goal will be a concern for Arteta & co.

Jesus played a pivotal role in Arsenal's first, but he wasn't able to register a goal or an assist.
