A woman was left gripping onto the edge of a train platform as she tried to pull herself from the train tracks after she was shoved by a stranger, believed to be a transport worker in Hong Kong

A 'gambling addict' has been arrested after he pushed a woman onto train tracks after he became angry when he lost his money by betting on horses.

The woman was patiently waiting for the train at a platform at Tai Hing North station, Hong Kong, when she was shoved in a random attack.

Fortunately, the woman was able to force her way back onto the platform as no trains were going by at the time, Chief Inspector Lee Ying-chi said in a press conference.

She survived the ordeal but suffered from injuries to her neck and arms before being sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment, reports Coconuts.

CCTV footage shows the victim making her way towards the end of the platform when the man targeted her by the tracks.

It has since been reported that the suspect is a 33-year-old transport worker with the surname Yau, police said.

Authorities are investigating whether the victim has any struggles with his mental health. They will also be looking into whether he has come into contact with the victim before

The 33-year-old was caught on surveillance footage as he hopped onto a train at Ping Shan Station at around 7pm.

Yau lost his money gambling earlier that day and took his frustration out on the woman, according to his neighbours who claim he is an addict.

The incident was reported by the victim's husband.
