400-mile 'Spanish sizzle' will see Brits bask in one of hottest ever Bank Holiday Mondays
Folk can expect wall-to-wall scorchio rays as the weekend leaks into Monday - meaning they can plan extra BBQs and give themselves time to soak up the sun in their gardens and parks
Britain will be hotter than Morocco as Meltdown Monday sees one of the hottest August Bank Holidays ever. Temperatures are set to soar to 29C in the South amid a 400 mile-wide “Spanish sizzle.”
Heat arriving from 44C Spain will even see the North enjoy 26C compared to 25C in Rabat, Morocco. And up to 12 hours’ sunshine is expected, delighting Notting Hill Carnival revellers, festival goers, and people flocking to beaches and parks.
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “We couldn’t have asked more for a beautiful Bank Holiday weekend. It’s so good for the tourist trade.”
The Met Office added: “Monday is expected to be the warmest day of the weekend, with temperatures peaking around 28C in the South and Midlands, with widespread sunshine, blue skies and a summer feel.”
If the mercury reaches 28.2C on Mon, it would be the second warmest August Bank Holiday since it began 60 years ago in 1965.
And it would be the most baking for six years since 2019’s record 33.2C, Met Office records show.
Meanwhile, drivers heading home from getaways have been warned to watch out for the worst traffic jams of the weekend.
The highest number of cars of the weekend are due on the roads as the weather triggers up to 10 million more Brits taking last-minute trips, VisitEngland data showed.
Elsewhere, sunseekers have been urged to make the most of the conditions as Tuesday will see washouts thanks to Hurricane Erin.
The storm, spinning across the Atlantic, will bring downpours and monster winds across the nation.
It will see temperatures fall to the low 20s on Wednesday.
The Met Office said: “The remnants of ex-Hurricane Erin will see a band of rain, which could be heavy, pushing over the UK, displacing our settled weather and bringing more spells of rain and perhaps strong winds in places by midweek.”
The news comes aftere we reported how British women are embracing a cheeky new craze for thongs ahead of another scorching day.
They can’t wait to have another chance to don the skimpy swimwear which has finally gone mainstream.
Hit reality telly series Love Island is thought to be fuelling the boom. The trend has also been boosted by celebrity fans including model Heidi Klum, actor Sofía Vergara and singer Nicole Scherzinger. Now thong bikinis are being manufactured in a more inclusive range of sizes and marketed more diversely.
