Adult star curse after string of tragic deaths including overdoses and sepsis victim
News of yet another adult star dying at a young age has drudged up memories of an awful period for the industry that saw multiple female stars pass away just months apart
Adult star Thaina Fields has passed away at the age of 24 under currently unknown circumstances – but she is not the first adult star in recent years to die young.
She joins a distressingly lengthy list of well-known stars to be taken before their time. From hanging to sepsis, many of these tragedies ask questions of the industry, and the safety and protection of its stars.
Thaina was found dead in her own home and police are understood to be investigating – although no cause of death has yet been made public. Her death comes just eight months after she spoke out about alleged abuse in the adult industry.
At the time, she said: "I have suffered sexual harassment and abuse after starting to create adult content. It's very strong. At first I said that I couldn't sue and many thought that by hiring me they could do what they wanted with me, but then I came home, took a bath and cried."

Perhaps the most high-profile name on this list, August Ames shocked the world when she was found hanged in a park in Camarillo, California in the US in December 2017. Ames had been prolific, a star with over 100 videos and was at the top of the industry – which is what made her death all the more shocking.
It came just two days after she had become embroiled in a homophobia scandal after she put out a tweet saying: “Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews, you're shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say. Do agents really not care about who they're representing? #ladirect I do my homework for my body”.
She received a torrent of abuse online, and just hours later she was dead.
During her life, August claimed she had been molested by her grandfather, but her father refused to believe her and sent her to live in a group home at the age of 12.
The body of Oliva Nova lay undiscovered for 12 hours after she died. The 20-year-old star passed away on March 2017 after she suffered a “severe urinary tract infection that spread to her kidney”.
The Minnesota native was found face down in her Vegas bed with a big bruise on her leg. Her agency later released a statement saying: “While only represented by Direct Models for a short period of time, we came to know Olivia as a beautiful girl with a very sweet and gentle personality.”
Shyla Stylez was 35 when she passed away. The Adult Film Hall of Famer is understood to have died in her sleep at her mother’s house on November 9 , 2017.
Stylez was loved by her co-stars. Following the news of her passing, Porn star Alana Evans wrote: “At a loss for words. So sad that my old friend @MsShylaStylez has left us. You were one of the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known.”
Just months after the passing of Stylez, Ames and Nova, in January 2018 Oliva Lua was found dead in a rehabilitation centre in West Hollywood. She became the fifth star in the industry to pass away in a matter of months.
LA Direct Models, which also represented Nova said in part of its statement: “We learned today that she had returned to a different facility in West Hollywood after a relapse, approximately a week ago, at which she was found deceased this morning.
“Family and close friends relate they had deep concern at the volume of prescription drugs prescribed to Olivia and the danger this posed her, if this was mixed with recreational drugs or alcohol. It is believed this to be the cause of her passing. We can barely believe we are issuing a notice such as this, not once but twice, in such a short space of time.”
Late adult star Sophie Anderson was abused, trafficked and even stabbed by her ex-footie star partner Oliver Spedding, friends have claimed.
Sophie, 36, died on November 28 with her cause of death still unconfirmed. Just weeks earlier her partner Spedding, a fellow X-rated performer, was also found dead at a Winchester motorway services hotel in a suspected drugs-related death. Now pals have alleged Sophie was abused physically and mentally by the former Crystal Palace player.
"She was scared but she felt she had no escape, that no one would listen to her," one friend told The Sun. "The last time one of us saw her she was skeletal, dishevelled, just emotionally broken. Her death has broken all our hearts."
