Charlene Harkin, 37, was attacked by Jessica Kitching, 25, outside the school their daughters attend. Kitching was handed a suspended sentence at Preston Crown Court

In a shocking schoolgate showdown, a mum was dragged to the ground by her ponytail before being booted in the face by another parent. Charlene Harkin, 37, has endured a "complete trauma", claiming she needed six months off work after Jessica Kitching, 25, launched the vicious attack.

It all kicked off outside Willow Bank School in Lancaster, where both their daughters are students. Despite previously being friends, the two mums had a holiday fall-out that sent tensions soaring.

Ms. Harkin, known to pals as Charlie, expressed her distress: "This has been a complete trauma for all of us. I have had to pull my three kids out of that school because I never felt we were safe. I have had to take six months off work."

The courtroom drama at Preston Crown Court revealed that Kitching pursued her rival from the playground before grabbing her hair, dragging her down, and giving her a knee to the chest. The beating continued with a flurry of kicks to Charlie's face.

As children watched on, the victim pleaded for mercy. The enraged mother yelled threats like "I know where you live. I'll kill you" whilst being pulled off by a bystander, reports the Mirror.

Still shaken, Ms Harkin confided in Mail Online last night about her fears of another attack, following the horrendous incident on September 21, 2023. After the brawl, the distressed mum, who has three kids of her own, sought medical attention at Lancaster Royal Infirmary for the facial wounds she sustained

Doctors suspected a hairline fracture to the woman's nose, but she skipped a follow-up appointment 10 days later, claiming she felt much better, Preston Crown Court was told. This week, Kitching received a suspended prison sentence.

Recorder Ayesha Siddiqi believed in the possibility of rehabilitation and considered the impact on Kitching's child if she were jailed. The judge imposed a 30-week prison term, suspended for 12 months, alongside 15 days of rehab activities and 60 hours of community service.

Recorder Siddiqi remarked: "This happened near a school and in the presence of children. You were unable to control your behaviour in front of the children. She must have been terrified by being pulled to the floor and kicked by you."

"There was the use of a shod foot as a weapon. This offence is so serious and your behaviour that day was so unacceptable that only a custodial sentence can be justified. Your behaviour that day was appalling."

Kitching from Lancaster admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Her defence argued the attack was out of character, noting her clean record.
