Gianni Infantino has made his bed and its decided to lay in it - but if he has any morals he should strip the USA from hosting the 2026 World Cup this summer
Someone who once used his position as one of the most powerful people in sport to cosy up to Russian despot Vladimir Putin. Or Qatari ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
But the FIFA president has excelled himself third time round, having chosen to get into bed with Donald Trump. Because it has resulted in a scenario so disgraceful and incomprehensible, FIFA's blue ribboned event is now on the precipice of disaster.
That's what wars tend to do, Gianni. Like the illegal one US president Trump inflicted on Iran, leaving the nation no choice but to withdraw from this summer's World Cup.
In a cretinous attempt to address a scenario the game has never seen before, Trump only succeeded in making the situation worse when taking to social media, to hand out a threat to the Iranian team.
"The Iran national soccer team is welcome to the World Cup," he said, "but I really don't believe it is appropriate that they are here, for their own life safety."
A threat to the Iranian football team, from the president of the host nation? And Infantino sits back, allows it to happen, and even thanks Trump for his continued support.
Content with being able to live with himself about the fact FIFA awarded Trump a 'peace prize'. At the last World Cup in 2022, there were calls for it to be withdrawn from Qatar when alcohol and LGBTQ flags were banned.
Infantino did nothing. And here we are preparing for the next one in the United States, and Infantino isn't blinking an eye at the fact a president has killed hundreds of children in Iran and banned countless countries from entering the host nation.
Iraq are now considering withdrawing from the tournament, citing major safety concerns. While Spain, Turkey and Germany are said to be questioning the United States as host nation.
If we lived in a normal world, one which didn't having raving narcissists like Infantino and Trump in it, I mean, FIFA and the host nation would be reassuring the participants that they will be safe.
Instead, the Iran team is told that their lives could be in danger. According to FIFA's mantra, football is supposed to unite the world, not threaten it. There are numerous soulless cowards in sport - but no-one comes close to Infantino.
If the Italian had an ounce of moral decency in him, he would strip the States of hosting the tournament. In a move similar to when Russia were banned from competing in various sporting events, having invaded Ukraine.
There will come a time when Infantino is gone. But the shame and dishonour he will leave behind, will remain a stain on the game it might never be able to wash off.
