There are long delays on a busy stretch of the M60 this after a crash. It has happened on the anti-clockwise stretch from junction 1, Stockport Pyramid, to junction 27, for the Portwood roundabout

A crash caused significant delays on a bustling section of the M60 this morning. The incident occurred on the anti-clockwise stretch from junction 1, Stockport Pyramid, to junction 27, for the Portwood roundabout.

Eyewitnesses reported that multiple vehicles seemed to have been involved in the collision. According to these accounts, one lane had been cordoned off.

Rush hour traffic was snaking back in long queues after the area was 'partially blocked', according to traffic service Inrix, reports the Manchester Evening News. They also noted that traffic was sluggish in the clockwise direction due to rubberneckers slowing down to take a look.

According to the traffic service Inrix, the queues on the already normally busy stretch of the M60 stretched back to junction 5 of the M56, near the Airport, a distance of more than seven miles.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed three cars were involved in the collision this morning. All drivers are said to be uninjured. The damaged cars were stranded in a lane. According to Inrix, all lanes have now reopened and traffic is starting to ease.

At least 42 people have been hurt after a high-speed train smashed into a passenger express in the Czech Republic, police said.

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the horror incident near the city of České Budějovice, around 100 miles south of Prague. A spokeswoman for a regional hospital told news agency CTK five people had been admitted to hospital with serious injuries. The rest who suffered minor injuries were treated by medics at the scene.

The crash is reported to have happened after one of the trains ran through a red signal. Traffic between České Budějovice and the city of Plzen has been stopped is not expected to resume until the afternoon. Ambulance service spokeswoman Petra Kafkova said: “There are 40 people with light injuries and two with serious injuries.”

Transport Minister Martin Kupka said on X the crash was still under investigation but preliminary information revealed one of the trains likely passed a signal in the stop position.

All passengers have been evacuated from the trains, said Martin Kavka, a spokesman for the rail operator Sprava zeleznic. He declined to confirm the circumstances of the smash, adding the investigation is still ongoing.
