Man City player ratings as Semenyo stars but Haaland blanks in 10-1 FA Cup win vs Exeter
Manchester City thrashed Exeter 10-1 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, with new £64m signing Antoine Semenyo among the goalscorers on his debut
Manchester City breezed into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a resounding 10-1 victory over Exeter - the biggest win from a top-flight side in the competition since 1960.
On a day of colossal upsets, Pep Guardiola took no risks and chose to field a very strong line-up against the League One side, and his decision paid off handsomely. Young defender Max Alleyne set the ball rolling for City before Rodri hammered in a second, and two additional goals towards the end of the first half were followed by a trio of substitutions after the interval.
Antoine Semenyo marked his full debut for the club with a goal and an assist before making way for Jeremy Doku with 30 minutes remaining, as City showed no signs of letting up. Tijjani Reijnders curled one in from the edge of the box, Nico O'Reilly nodded home, and Ryan McAidoo struck before George Birch netted a late consolation and Rico Lewis added a tenth. Here are the player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.
Starting XI
James Trafford: Made a decent save early on when Exeter posed a threat, but had little else to do in a match dominated by City. 7.
Rico Lewis: Integral to much of City's play, scored a beautiful goal and set up another for O'Reilly. He even wore the captain's armband in the second half. 9.
Abdukodir Khusanov: Another sturdy performance, with his biggest challenge coming when Mfuni collided with him late in the game. 7.
Max Alleyne: Opened the scoring and didn't put a foot wrong thereafter, rounding off a superb week for the young player. 8.
Nathan Ake: Chipped in with the third goal after playing a part in the opener, before being substituted at half-time. 7.
Rodri: A splendid moment for him to score - and what a smashing strike. Crucial minutes for him as he regains form.7.
Ryan McAidoo: Diminished slightly in the second half but made excellent decisions that contributed to goals and showed no fear. Scored late on 8.
Tijjani Reijnders: Still has his frustrating moments but he contributed to several goals and kept City on the offensive. 8.
Rayan Cherki: Fluctuated in and out of the game, not helped by taking on multiple positions. 7.
Antoine Semenyo: A goal and assist in the second half to boost his performance and surely secure his start at Newcastle. 7.
Erling Haaland: Came close with one decent attempt and looked lively, but should still see it as a missed opportunity. 6.
