Prem icon lifts lid on 'world class' Man Utd academy where son, 15, dreaming of stardom
EXCLUSIVE A Premier League legend has lifted the lid on Manchester United’s ‘world class’ academy where his highly-rated teenage son is dreaming of the first-team
A Premier League legend has lifted the lid on Manchester United’s "world class" academy where his 15-year-old son is learning his trade.
Robert Earnshaw made history as the only player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, all three divisions of the Football League, the FA Cup, League Cup and for his country. But the Welshman looks set to have his football legacy continued through his son.
Silva Mexes Tyler-Earnshaw is a highly-rated winger at Carrington after he moved to Manchester in 2024 after being snapped up from Ipswich Town, and is even a Thailand youth international through his mother’s descent.
The prodigy has also made waves outside of football after he was dubbed the "fastest wonderkid in the world" when he ran his personal best 100m record in 11.1 seconds as a 14-year-old.
And his famous father is convinced United is the right place for his development. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sport via find Free Bets at Oddspedia, Earnshaw lauded the academy at United.
“He's at a very good football club, really excellent. It's a world-class football club,” he said. “The facilities and the whole academy there is great. They've got top players.
"I'm lucky enough that I get to go see my son and watch him, but also watch some of the top players that he plays with. He's in a perfect place, I think it's a place for him to continue developing. He's still so young.
"You know, he's 15 and still just developing. There's still a few more years of him to tweak and adjust and get better and fulfil his talent.
“He's got a lot of potential. But he's in the right place and the club has been excellent for him. He’s playing on a good team, and he's going to continue to find what works for him, and find his constant improvement.
“We'll push him, of course, we'll push him as much as possible, but he really enjoys where he is.”
Earnshaw continued to praise Darren Fletcher’s coaching despite their limited involvement with each other. The former United midfielder has returned to his role as U18 manager following his brief caretaker job in the first team.
“He kind of obviously bounces between the 16s and the 18s. I haven't had too much real contact. What I try and do is when I go, I'm a Silva Mexes fan, and I'm a football fan, and I go to enjoy him, and that's his environment.
“I watch everything and the club always gives him constant information too. It's all about getting him better, but how amazing it is that he's got great coaches that he can learn from.
“People like Darren Fletcher, people who are inside the football club, who've been around, or played for the club for a number of years, get all of these experiences transferred across to him.
“He's in good hands and he's in a great place that he can ideally, just soak that up and take that in.
“I think one of the wonderful things in football, especially for me, I love playing with great players in and around the older age groups, in the first team, because I knew I could learn from them, and that's what he continues to do.”
