Wild life of Sven-Goran Eriksson – 6 WAGs at once, 'boring' sex and 'f*** off' to Fergie

Sven-Goran Eriksson has lived an incredible life, with the former England and Manchester City manager never far from making headlines and not just for his teams' football

Sven-Goran Eriksson has lived an incredible life so far - on and off the pitch. The former England manager, 75, has revealed he has terminal cancer and only one year left to live at best. He told fans: "I have to fight as long as possible."

But the managerial great - whose spell in charge of the Three Lions for five years between 2001 and 2006 was unforgettable - has packed more than most into his time so far, to say the least. And it's not just winning the UEFA Cup with his native Goteborg, taking Benfica to the European Cup final, or winning Serie A with Lazio.

The now retired Swede spent the majority of his managerial career scoring as often as the strikers who played for him did. His steamy affairs were notorious, especially the ones that happened during his England stint. TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson and FA secretary Faria Alam were just two of several concubines unable to resist the charms of the suave Swede.

But bedding bodacious beauties is far from Eriksson's only kryptonite. Whether it was making deals with 'Fake Sheikhs', telling Sir Alex Ferguson to, er, 'eff off, or getting conned by North Korea-fraternising fraudsters, Sven was barely ever off the front page during his time as a football boss. Here, Daily Star Sport runs through some of his maddest stories.

He was never a top player. The Sunne-born right-back had a middling career with the likes of Torsby IF, where he made his debut at 16, before joining second tier side KB Kariskoga. Retiring at 27, he said: "I was looked upon as a distinctly average defender, but someone who rarely made mistakes."

It was when he popped on the managerial tracksuit – later a full suit – that people began to take notice. Between 1977 and 2001 he won 18 trophies in Sweden, Portugal and Italy including the Uefa Cup and Cup Winners Cup. He managed the likes of Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Lazio before England needed a replacement for Kevin Keegan.

In his five years with England his life became very public (see below). Helming the 'Golden Generation' they reached the quarter finals in the 2002 World Cup and again at the 2004 Euro Championships before losing to Portugal. In the 2006 World Cup they lost to Portugal once more after Sunday newspaper allegations (again, see below) he said he would be leaving the role. He went on to manage Manchester City and a few more national teams before his finishing with the Philippines in 2018.

Stay with us, as things get a little saucy from here...

It sounds like Eriksson's body count could rival Russell Brand's, especially if these sorts of stories are to be believed. One of the Swede's many mistresses, millionairess Marisa Cauchi, bonked the ex-Manchester City boss for four years, but ended it when she found out she was one of five other women in a harem.

"I was with Sven for four years and he broke my heart. He told me he loved me and promised we’d come out as a couple. In reality he was keeping me a secret so he could romance other women," she told the Mirror.

Elsewhere, CaSvenova is purported to have had flings with a Romanian gymnast-turned-pop star, a Swedish air hostess, and a concierge from Stockholm's Grand Hotel. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, according to those in the know.

Eriksson revealed in his 2013 autobiography that he once slept with a married woman on her sofa when her husband came home and caught them. The raunchy revelation was eventually cut from the final draft, but the memo didn't get to publishers in Norway who released the uncensored version.

"We soon found ourselves naked on the sofa," wrote Eriksson. "She had not said anything about having a husband, but suddenly the door opened and there was a big man who said: 'Who the hell are you?' I said: 'I better leave,' and he replied: 'I think it’s probably for the best'."

He then left the flat dressed in just his underpants and shirt, leaving his jacket, trousers, wallet, mobile phone and shoes behind. He wrote: "I wonder what would have happened if a photographer had seen me, walking around in nothing but a shirt?"

Eriksson had a tumultuous relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson when he was England boss, mainly due to the fact he kept calling Fergie's Manchester United stars up for international duty.

The two came to blows when Ferguson demanded Eriksson leave Wayne Rooney out of his 2006 World Cup squad in order to allow the striker to recover from an ill-timed metatarsal injury. Eriksson says the United boss threatened to kill him if he didn't oblige, and claims to have calmly told him - and I'm paraphrasing here - to 'kindly do one you gum-chewing, red-nosed Scottish twit'.

"He said, 'I will kill you. You are finished.' But I represented England and you have to stand up," Eriksson told The Times. "What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong and when you say ‘Don’t pick Rooney because I’m going to kill you’ . . . I said, 'F*** off, what’s going on with you?'

"And he was screaming. Whenever he got like that . . . it has no meaning. That’s why I was, 'Alex, I will pick Rooney. Now, have a nice holiday. Ciao, bye'."

Promiscuousness doesn't always guarantee performance and sex-mad Sven is testament to that, at least according to Ulrika Jonsson who once claimed their love life was "as exciting as assembling an IKEA bookcase".

The two started sleeping together in 2002 while Eriksson was dating Italian-American lawyer Nancy Dell'Olio, but when the affair was brought to light, they ended it.

According to The News of the World, Jonsson's nanny once caught the two mid-romp … or perhaps they were just building a flat-pack cupboard?

In 2006, Sven fell victim to The News of the World's infamous 'Fake Sheikh' sting, in which an undercover journalist posing as an Arab billionaire looking to buy a Premier League football club coaxed him into admitting he would quit the England job.

During the snare, he told the 'sheikh' to buy Aston Villa and even said he'd try and convince David Beckham, who was at Real Madrid at the time, to come and sign for them.

A few days after the story hit the papers, the FA announced Eriksson would leave following the 2006 World Cup. In 2016, Eriksson announced he was to take legal action against Mazher Mahmood, the undercover journalist, on the basis the story had cost him the England job.

In 2009, Eriksson assumed a director of football role at League Two outfit Notts County after a Middle Eastern consortium had taken the club over with grand plans of taking County to the Premier League in five years.

A number of big names followed the Swede through the door, including Sol Campbell and Kasper Schmeichel, but just a few weeks in, things took a turn for the surreal.

The new chairman asked Eriksson if he'd like to come with him to North Korea in order to help fix the draw for the 2010 World Cup. A few months later, with unpaid bills stacking up, the chairman was outed as a penniless fraudster and booted out of the club. Eriksson, Campbell and Schmeichel all follow shortly after.
