Alisson goes 'full David de Gea' with horrendous FA Cup howler as Cody Gakpo makes debut

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea made an awful error on Friday night but Liverpool stopper Alisson has arguably gone one step further with a calamitous moment

Anything David de Gea can do, Alisson can do better. Or should that be worse...

Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea produced a howler as the Red Devils beat Everton in the FA Cup on Friday evening and Alisson shocked Reds fans with an error of his own 24 hours later. Liverpool hosted Wolves in the Cup, and the Brazilian's error helped the visitors take the lead.

Following a poor pass to Thiago, the midfielder played the ball back to Alisson as Wolves put the pressure on. There were plenty of options for the goalkeeper, but he played the ball straight to the feet of Goncalo Guedes who made no mistake.

And fans were quick to spot the similarities between Alisson and his Manchester United rival De Gea.

One put: "Alisson managed to outdo De Gea, fair enough." And another commented: "De Gea vs Alisson fighting it out for worst mistake of the season."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had admitted the Reds pounced for Gakpo earlier than planned, but he was pleased to get the deal over the line.

When asked by ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher if the move had been brought forward because of the ongoing injury crisis at Anfield, Klopp admitted: "Yeah for sure, but we had interest in Cody for a long time, already for a while, you know our situation.

"We cannot just pick players and say 'OK, bring them in'. We need to collect money a little bit and then we can spend a little bit and then we collect again. Cody is a very interesting player.

"He's 23 years old, captain of Eindhoven, came through the Eindhoven academy, is there really well respected and loved for the way he developed and we just think it's the right moment to bring him in because he can develop, he's still young, but the things he offers already are incredibly interesting for us.

"It helps us massively at the moment of course but in the long term as well because he can play all three positions, all four positions whatever you play, and that's pretty rare to be honest."
