Bloke boots in Greggs door and hands himself saying he was 'desperate' for sausage roll

A man who kicked in the door of a Greggs in the early hours of the morning explained he was just gagging for a sausage roll.
Scot Matthew Devlin admitted the charge of wilful destruction at Edinburgh sheriff court on Monday after the attempted break-in on August 18, the Daily Record reported.
Devlin ended up smashing the door of the closed South Clerk Street branch - and did so because he was desperate for one of the bakery's signature sausage rolls, he told cops.
He handed himself in to the local police station at 3.55am the same day, admitting his offence to officers there.
Fiscal depute Emma Laing said: “The accused attended at the police station at 3.35am and admitted he had vandalised Greggs.
“He told officers he kicked and smashed the door because he wanted a sausage roll.
“He was arrested at 3.55am on suspicion of vandalism.”
Devlin was also appearing for sentencing on a charge of possessing a knife in a public place last March.
He explained he was carrying the kitchen knife with a three-inch blade at 12.10am on Restalrig Road in order to cut cauliflower, Ms Laing added.
Representing himself in court, Devlin told the sentencing he was cooking with a friend and "went out for more beer", forgetting he was carrying a knife.
Sheriff Matthew Auchincloss sentenced Devlin to a 67-day restriction of liberty order.
He is banned from leaving his house in the city’s Liberton area between 9pm and 7am.
