Brits brace for 'snow bomb' as bookies slash weather odds on 'coldest February on record'

Bookies have slashed odds on next month ending as the coldest February on record as temperatures continue to fall.
Leading bookmaker Coral has cut their odds to 6-4 (from 3-1) and also goes 5-4 that this winter finishes as the coldest since records began.
It comes as it was announced that another freezing week is on the cards for Brits, who may also face a "snow bomb" similar to the Beast from the East.
"It has been a chilly January for large parts of the month, and unfortunately our betting suggests things are not going to get warmer in February. We have slashed the odds on the month ending as a record-cold February," said Coral's John Hill.
A rare amber weather warning for cold weather ended on Sunday (January 29), after being extended for a fourth time by the UK Health Security Agency.
Weather maps from WXCharts have suggested there could be a chance of snowfall across the UK in the upcoming week.
The charts show a 50% to 70% chance of snow occurring in the northern regions of England early in the week, compared to an 80% to 95% of it falling further north in Scotland.
The major flurries are expected to hit later today (January 31), starting in the northwest of Scotland and spreading down into northern England by the evening.
Jim Dale, from the British Weather Services, said back in December, there is a possibility of a Beast from the East occurring should weather pattern begin to change, and that February's outlook will depend on how the specific systems play out.
He said at the time: "If this happens, we are in a classic position to get a cold flow in from the east, and with that, snow, ice and very cold winds.
"This is an indicator of a Beast from the East, and although it has not woken up fully yet, it is safe to say the beast is opening its eyes.”
