Heathrow Airpot has been hit by 'freezing fog' that has grounded more than 80 flights, with the Met Office and British Airways both releasing statements regarding a yellow fog warning

Heathrow Airport has been thrown into chaos as a "freezing fog" and snowy conditions have seen more than 80 flights grounded.

Over 12,000 British Airways passengers are facing cancellations at the London-based airport with over 80 BA flights grounded due to severe cold.

Temperatures of -8C were reported from the ground, with flights to Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Paris, Stockholm and Milan all facing swift cancellations amid the weather troubles.

Just yesterday, up to 70 flights from British Airways were cancelled following fog at Heathrow.

A statement from British Airways read: "Like other airlines, our schedule has been affected today due to fog experienced across London.

"We apologise to customers and are doing everything we can to get them on their way as quickly as possible. We advise customers to check ba.com for the latest flight information."

Forecasters have since warned that visibility for drivers and flights could be reduced to as low as 50m, with slower travel times expected for those on the ground, Independent reported.

A Met Office statement read: "Freezing fog will lead to difficult driving conditions and could cause travel delays in some areas on Monday.

"There is a chance of del

ays or cancellations to flights."

So far, more than 80 flights through British Airways at Heathrow Airport have been cancelled, while those on the ground may experience "delays" also, the Met Office has warned through their yellow fog warning.
