Arsenal clinched a colossal win over Brentford to send them top of the Premier League with fans believing it may be destiny for them to win the title for the first time in 20 years

Arsenal fans believe the Premier League title is in their sights after their thrilling 2-1 win over Brentford.

The victory on Saturday (March 9) saw the Gunners leapfrog both Manchester City and Liverpool to the top of the Premier League with those two teams set to go head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday (March 10).

Despite going 1-0 up in the first half with -Declan Rice scoring his fifth league goal of the season, Aaron Ramsdale's horror blunder allowed Yoane Wissa to equalise right before half-time to set a despondent mood in the Emirates.

With Mikel Arteta's side going close to taking the lead several times, pressure started to set in but was eased by Kai Havertz's 83rd minute winner which secured all three points for the North London club which has them topping the table for the first time since Christmas.

The action-packed triumph had fans on social media discussing their chances of winning the league for the first time since 2004 with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing: "Arsenal were always going to win this game at home, and it’s a result like this that’s more league title convincing than 6-0 against relegation fodder".

Another fan hailed the current side as the best they've had in two decades as they commented: "This is by far the best Arsenal team since the Invincibles - we are in the race. 8 in a row, top of the league, we are MASSIVE!" while another added: "THAT IS A F***ING MASSIVE RESULT, WHAT A CLUB, THE ARSENAL". Other Arsenal supporters also dubbed the title as "written in the stars", insisting the Gunners will lift the trophy.

Havertz - who equalled his best goal-scoring season in England with the winner - had quite the passionate celebration as one fan said he had the: "Roar of a champion".

A draw between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday will see Arsenal retain their spot at the top of the Premier League, leaving them with their destiny in their hands but like Arteta said prior to the Brentford fixture, they're challenging the two best teams in Europe.

"We are competing with two of the most successful clubs in Europe in the last decade," the Spaniard said. "They have set the standards that no one else has been capable of. But what we have to do is try to improve and do better than them."

He insisted that his side will not rest in their chase for titles as he added: "What I enjoy is to be fighting for big trophies in this period and we want to do the same when it gets to May. That is our objective. It will never stop - the demands and the number of points that are going to be needed. That will be so high."
