Real Madrid remain favourites to land Kylian Mbappe from PSG this summer, but Arsenal are considering a move for the phenomenal forward in what is the latest twist in his transfer saga

Arsenal fans have been left in disbelief after reports of the club weighing up a move for Kylian Mbappe.

The Gunners’ transfer window has got off to a sensational start, having signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £65million. They are also in the process of wrapping up deals for West Ham captain Declan Rice and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber for a combined £145m.

Only signing an out-and-out goal-scorer remains on the agenda for Mikel Arteta. And he could do that in serious style by landing Paris Saint-Germain sensation Mbappe next year, according to website Football Transfers.

Mbappe has long been tipped to seal his dream move to Real Madrid. Los Blancos have ramped up their pursuits of the Frenchman following the departure of his compatriot Karim Benzema, having narrowly missed out on signing Mbappe last season.

But the 24-year-old phenomenon comes with a hefty price-tag worth upwards of £150m, which Real Madrid may not be able to gather.

And in the case where they miss out on the World Cup winning forward, Arsenal will consider swooping in next year once his contract at the Parc des Princes is up.

Arsenal are said to be admirers of Mbappe, having failed to sign him twice in the past while he was at Monaco.

The north Londoners are aware they would be second choice to Madrid when it comes to securing Mbappe’s signature, but a successful 2023/24 campaign and free agency could provide a staggering twist in their favour.

Understandably, many of the Gunners faithful were left astounded at being linked to one of the greatest players on the planet, taking to social media to voice their excitement.

One Twitter user wrote: “If that were to happen it would be arguably the biggest transfer in @Arsenal history.”

Another tweeted: “What is going on?” while a third commented: “Our MOST WILDEST DREAM!”

A fourth fan questioned the legitimacy of the rumours, writing: “As an Arsenal fan I laughed out loud.”

And a fifth added: “If this is true, I’m leaving Japan and coming home to buy a season ticket.”
