Manchester United and England legend David Beckham has been snubbed for a knighthood yet again - and he might not be best pleased about who made the cut ahead of him

David Beckham's wait for a knighthood goes on while Ron Dennis - who he once verbally clashed with - has received one.

Manchester United and England legend Beckham, 48, has long been expected to be knighted for his work both on and off the pitch. But his name is once again missing from the New Year Honours list.

And to add insult to injury, a man who he had an explosive argument with almost seven years ago to the day has made the cut. Dennis, who was already a CBE, has got his knighthood for services to charity.

The former McLaren F1 chief, 76, was holidaying in the Maldives at the end of 2016 when he and Beckham got into a heated squabble. It begun when Dennis unwittingly took the front-row seats Becks had reserved at the resort they were both staying in.

According to The Sun, a female member of Beckham's staff asked Dennis to move - but he is claimed to have replied: “I’ve paid the most money on the island, I deserve to sit here.”

A source said: “Becks was fuming. It was a throwback to his early football days when he used to show his temper on the pitch. He really didn’t hold back.

“He believed Ron was rude. He was so incensed he felt the need to put him in his place - despite the fact the row was in full view of other guests. The pair were really going at it.

Tensions eventually calmed once the Beckham contingent, which included celeb chef Gordon Ramsay and his family, got their seats back after Dennis was moved to a similar spot.

Golden Balls, who did receive an OBE from the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2003, was previously ruled out of a knighthood after being embroiled in a tax avoidance scheme a decade ago.

He's since been given the all clear by HMRC. But he's now been snubbed in King Charles' first three honours lists.
