Fans label Cristiano Ronaldo 'finished' as he wastes open goal - before finally scoring

Ex-Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo is still finding his feet in Saudi Arabia, as was shown in the chance he missed in Al Nassr's most recent match for against Al Fateh

Football fans have called Cristiano Ronaldo "finished" after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner missed a gilt-edged chance for new club Al Nassr.

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend did at least score his first competitive goal for the Saudi Arabian giants later on. Ronaldo netted a 93rd-minute equaliser from the penalty spot to secure a 2-2 draw against Al Fateh.

Before that moment, though, Ronaldo had found adapting to Middle Eastern football very difficult and was given a rough welcome by Ettifaq FC midfielder Faisal Al-Ghamdi, who put him on his backside on his competitive debut. But while he is still reliable from 12 yards, his finishing from open play is still proving to be problematic.

After fellow attacker Talisca rattled the post with a fierce effort, the ball fell kindly to Ronaldo around 12 yards from goal. The goalkeeper was out of his goal and two defenders were desperately trying to get back to the goal line.

However, the Portuguese ace did not quite realise how much time he had. Instead of taking a touch to settle himself before deciding which corner to put the ball in, Ronaldo tried hitting the effort fast time and horribly shanked his effort over the crossbar.

While the ball did come at him very quickly, many would put their house on the five-time Champions League winner hitting the back of the net. And fans believe this miss is the beginning of the end for one of football's greatest ever players.

“He might be finished,” one fan wrote on social media. “Ronaldo is not doing too well over there,” said one other fan. “How?” one rival fan simply posted before another replied, “he’s so finished”.

According to AFP, Ronaldo signed a record deal contract worth £177million per year. It is understood to be the largest salary any footballer has ever earned in the history of the game.

Ronaldo joined the Saudi giants shortly after the World Cup, a matter of weeks after his contract at United was torn up, in the wake of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Considering the unprecedented salary, one imagines Al Nassr will be hoping he can start finding the corners when he is gifted chances like that in open play.
