Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was jailed for her part in the stabbing of mum Clauddine Blanchard seven years ago following a lifetime of alleged medical abuse, is set to be freed from prison

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is set to be freed from prison after she was jailed for murdering her mum.

Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, who allegedly medically abused her daughter, was knifed to death in her home in Missouri, US, in 2015. Clauddine is thought to have made her daughter's life a living nightmare after she invented a fake illness and "kept her sick" for her entire life.

Gypsy Rose, now 32, confessed to her part in the slaughtering after teaming up with her with then-boyfriend Nick Godejohn to plot the killing. Godejohn was the one who ultimately carried out the killing, stabbing Clauddine as she slept.

At trial it emerged that Gypsy Rose had been made a victim of Munchausen’s syndrome by proxy, which saw her mother insist she had a swathe of debilitating illnesses over the course of her life. These ranged from leukaemia to muscular dystrophy and saw Gypsy Rose kept in a wheelchair despite not needing to.

Gypsy Rose was also given unnecessary medication and forced to use a feeding tube. The sick mother even lied about her daughter's age to everyone – including Gypsy Rose herself – in what is believed to have been a control method.

In June 2015 the young woman reached breaking point and plotted to kill her mother alongside Godejohn, who stabbed Clauddine in June of that year. The pair were both handed sentences in 2016.

But while Godejohn will remain in prison for life without parole, Gypsy Rose is now set to walk free.

She tied the knot with husband Ryan on June 27, 2022, who has been supporting her throughout her time in prison. Upon her release she hopes to assimilate back into society and put a positive spotlight on mental health.

During her time in prison she attended group therapy, which has been credited as an important aspect of her recovery. Once she leaves jail she plans to continue one-to-one trauma therapy in a bid to finally put her past behind her.

In addition to her advocacy work, Gypsy Rose has also become somewhat of a social media star despite being locked up for seven years. Fans have taken to TikTok to plot how she can make the most of her release.
