Man Utd need to sign players in six positions to win the Premier League, according to AI
Daily Star Sport asked ChatGPT to play the role of Manchester United's sporting director and reveal who the Red Devils need to sign in the transfer window to win the Premier League next season
Manchester United need to sign players in six different positions if they want to win the Premier League, according to AI.
The Red Devils have got off to a dismal start in the summer transfer window compared to their rivals. While the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are in the process of completing deals for world class talent, United have seemingly stalled.
Defensive target Kim Min-Jae handed Erik ten Hag a blow by opting to sign for Bayern Munich last week, while United’s pursuit of a striker has been thwarted by clubs demanding lofty transfer fees.
The possibility of a change in ownership has likewise played a part, with the Glazers unwilling to splash out just as they are about to make a much-needed exit.
But the good news is that it is still early days in the window. And in an effort to help Ten Hag bolster his squad this summer, Daily Star Sport asked Artificial Intelligence program ChatGPT who the Red Devils need to target in order to win the 2023/24 league campaign.
While the software stated it could not provide real-time information, it suggested six new positions that would go a long way towards the Red Devils knocking rivals Manchester City off their perch.
ChatGPT said: “A strong, defensive-minded midfielder who can protect the backline, break up opposition attacks, and provide stability in midfield.”
Southampton’s 19-year-old defensive-midfielder Romeo Lavia is our pick for this position. The Belgian is a great dribbler and interceptor of the ball, but United would have to compete with Arsenal’s own advances.
ChatGPT said: “A commanding centre-back who can lead the defence, provide organisation, and improve the team's solidity at the back.”
Losing out on Kim was no doubt a huge blow, but there are still several young and physically imposing central defenders on the market. Ligue 1’s Jean-Clair Todibo and Axel Disasi have both been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
ChatGPT said: “A reliable and dynamic right-back who can contribute defensively and offer an attacking threat down the flank.”
Reports suggest the Red Devils will stick with their current options, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, ahead of next season. Dalot has been rewarded with a new contract for massively improving the defensive side of his game under Ten Hag.
ChatGPT said: “A creative midfielder who can control the game, distribute the ball effectively, and contribute goals and assists.”
Chelsea and England star Mason Mount is currently on Ten Hag’s radar. The jack-of-all trades midfielder has prioritised a move to Old Trafford but the club’s impending Qatari takeover is delaying negotiations with the Blues. Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace and Leverkusen prodigy Florian Wirtz would provide more attacking alternatives.
ChatGPT said: “A skilful and pacey winger who can provide width, stretch the opposition defence, and contribute with goals and assists.”
United have been linked with a whole host of forwards already this summer. Among them are French duo Moussa Diaby and Marcus Thuram, both of whom play their football in the Bundesliga and would add dynamism to an often-stale attack.
ChatGPT said: “A clinical and prolific striker who can consistently score goals and provide a focal point for the team's attack.”
It is no secret that Ten Hag has made signing a superstar striker his number-one priority in the off-season. Tottenham’s Harry Kane would be a true statement transfer, while younger alternatives like Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos could be bought for hefty fees.
