Ruben Amorim and Manchester United are looking to offload deadwood and reinvest in their squad as the Red Devils challenge for European qualification this season

Manchester United and Ruben Amorim got back on the winning track against Newcastle and are now just three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

It was Patrick Dorgu's stunning volley that made the difference as Amorim's team took on the Magpies. The victory saw the Portuguese manager switch to a seldom-used back four due to the absence of captain Bruno Fernandes. The starting line-up was shaken up around the 60-minute mark with the introduction of Leny Yoro.

He came on alongside Joshua Zirkzee, who has reportedly made a decision about his uncertain future at United. And with the January transfer window looming, United could look to reinvest and bolster their squad. Here's all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Dutch forward Zirkzee arrived in Manchester in the summer of 2024 and was the first signing secured under new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Erik ten Hag was the manager when he joined from Bologna. The £36.5million striker failed to make an impact under the Dutchman and has seen limited game time off the bench under Amorim, managing only a single assist so far this season.

With new forwards brought in over the summer, rumours began to circulate about a possible transfer for Zirkzee, who Amorim deemed surplus to requirements, but nothing came of them.

As the January transfer window approaches, those rumours are resurfacing, and new reports suggest he has made a decision about his future, reports the Mirror.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zirkzee has allegedly reached an agreement to join Roma. The Italian outfit have been consistently linked with a potential swoop for the Dutch forward.

Zirkzee has now apparently held discussions with Roma's sporting director Ricky Massara and received guarantees from manager Gian Piero Gasparini that he'll slot into their tactical setup. The report suggests that a transfer could be wrapped up by mid-January - music to the ears of Amorim.

While the men's squad appears to be preparing for Zirkzee's departure, the women's team has received welcome news.

Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa has put pen to paper on a new deal with United that will see her remain at the club until 2029. Miyazawa joined the Manchester outfit two years ago and played a key role in helping the club secure the Women's FA Cup during the 2023/24 campaign. She's also a consistent performer for her country.

United's director of women's football Matt Johnson said: "We are really excited to have Hinata extend her time at Manchester United.

"She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas."

Miyazawa commented: "I am really enjoying playing football at Manchester United and I am really happy to be continuing my journey here."
