After 'violently removing' breathing tubes supplying her three-day-old daughter with oxygen, new mum Kendra Greene absconded from the hospital with her baby, police say

A Florida mother was behind bars last night after running amok in a hospital’s intensive care unit.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office said in a statement that suspect Kendra Greene entered the NICU unit at Palms West Hospital at around 10:30pm and started trying to take her three-day-old daughter out of a ventilator where she was being treated for a congenital lung defect.

Greene "violently removed" the newborn's breathing device, a central line from her stomach, a feeding tube, and a number other life-supporting devices, police say.

After hearing a "code pink" announcement, warning of a child abduction, three hospital staff attempted to intervene, at which point Greene allegedly produced a knife and lashed out at them.

As one nurse pleaded with Greene to leave the baby alone, the 31-year-old mother is reported to have said ”F*ck you, b*tch”.

She took the infant with her – leaving the little girl with a relative who later returned them to the hospital.

Greene’s daughter is understood to be in a stable condition.

All three staff members received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and were discharged the same evening.

Greene was arrested shortly after and is now being held at the Palm Beach County jail on multiple charges including two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count each of aggravated child abuse, battery and resisting an officer without violence..

An official statement from the hospital read: "We are very thankful that our colleagues are recovering and HCA Florida Palms West Hospital is providing support and care for their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

"We are also thankful to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, whose quick actions led to the apprehension of the suspect and the safe return of the patient. Our security team is assisting fully with law enforcement's investigation".
