Queen set up 'secret sign' so aides could whisk her away if she 'felt unwell' - reports
Her Majesty hosted a lavish reception last Tuesday, a day before she spent the night in hospital, and royal aides were reportedly on standby to step in if she felt unwell
The Queen set up a secret signal with her aides who were on standby to whisk her away if she felt unwell at a reception last week, according to reports.
Last Tuesday the 95-year-old monarch hosted a reception for guests, including tech billionaire Bill Gates and US climate envoy John Kerry, right before she spent a night in hospital.
According to the Daily Mail, the unknown signal wasn't necessary and Her Majesty was on 'sparkling form' at the event.
However, on Wednesday Buckingham Palace were forced to cancel her scheduled trip to Northern Ireland as she spent the night with doctors at King Edward VII’s Hospital in central London.
On Thursday a statement from the Palace read: "Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits."
The hospital trip was the Queen's first in eight years after she was treated for a bout of gastroenteritis at a private clinic in 2013.
There were further concerns for her health two weeks ago after she was seen using a walking stick at Westminster Abbey, the first time she had done so in 20 years.
Royal insiders have since told The Sun that Her Majesty was also forced to miss the regular church service at All Saints Chapel in Windsor on Sunday.
This all follows a frantic period for the Queen who, having returned from Balmoral to London, travelled nearly 1,000 miles this month and had 19 royal engagements in as many days.
Her busy schedule has now been wiped and other leading royals are expected to carry out investitures as she continues to rest.
It is now understood that royal aides are creating a 'core' list of events that the Queen will attend over the next 12 months.
That said, a royal source told the Daily Mail that she is 'ready to get back to work this week'.
It is said that she is determined to represent the Royal Family at the Cop26 climate change summit in Glasgow, which will see 120 world leaders gather at the Scottish Event Campus from October 31.
