Every year Brits flock to the site to cast their vote about where they think the nation’s rock bottom is located – and this year a familiar name is currently topping the running. Peterborough is at the top of the pile so far having hoovered up some 6.42% of the popular vote at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, hot on its heels is Aberdeen with 5.69%, while confusingly in third is Medehamstede (Cambs) – which the Daily Star understands to be what Peterborough was called during the Anglo-Saxon era. It currently has 4.33% of the vote but whether that means that Peterborough actually has 10.75% remains to be seen.

Last year Peterborough, which the Daily Star previously reported to have been described by someone who lived in its shadow as “the boil on the backside of Britain,” came second in the ranking.

It was pipped to the top spot by Luton, which currently sits in eighth in this year’s polling with 1.88% of the vote. But despite a year off the top spot last year, Peterborough has proven itself to have real pedigree when it comes to being despised by the nation.

It also lost out to Aylesbury in 2022 but before that won the “award” three years in a row.

Whether or not it will return to the top of the pile remains to be seen with voting still ongoing.

Writing at the top of the voting poll, the team behind iLiveHere wrote: “Bland, Boring, Soul destroying mediocrity with a gaping cultural void. This is what our new poll is about.

“This year we are ditching the usual suspects to focus on those towns throughout this septic isle that give you an almost-terminal case of ennui. The towns where you just exist rather than live.”
