UK's 'worst Nando's' branded peri peri 'Fawlty Towers' by disgusted diners

The chicken chain's London restaurant has received a mixed bag of reviews ranging from five stars to one star - with several diners blasting the food, the staff and lengthy wait times

Nandos has hundreds of restaurants up and down the UK, but according to one loyal customer the “worst Nandos” in the UK is in London.

Chicken lovers have taken to Tripadvisor to share their shocking dining experiences of the branch in Holborn, Central London.

The chain has been given an overall rating of three and a half stars out of five overall.

While the majority of reviews rating it as very good, just under half of all reviewers rated it between average and terrible – calling out the "terrible and rude" staff and lengthy wait times.

Of the 82 reviews, 19 are excellent, 20 are very good, 9 were average, 10 were poor, and 12 were terrible.

The most recent review left on their Tripadvisor page is from April 26, and is titled “terrible and rude staff”.

User Sanaa G wrote: “Restaurant was empty but rude staff especially manager not seating us properly and proceeding to be argumentative and discriminatory towards us- awful and wouldn’t recommend.”

Another unhappy diner branded the eatery “the worst Nandos”.

Following their visit they wrote: “We went to this Nandos on the evening of Monday, December 9. We have been here on a number of occasions with no problem.

“The service was abysmal! We waited 20 minutes to place our order. After 30 minutes they delivered food which we had not ordered and then decided to tell us they had run out of one of our orders!!

“We left without eating. [...] This is by far the worst service in any Nandos. Maybe this will prompt a call? We won't hold our breath though.”

One user said described their dining experience as something from Fawlty Towers, and claimed it put them off the chain for good.

They said "We was the only customers in restaurant and still had to wait over an hour for our food, and then only the chicken meals came. Waited for the burger to come. It never, so after 5 mins went to counter and was told it wasn't even started cooking yet as there oven was broke.

"The staff were getting in a right muddle, as when other customers started arriving there orders were wrong also .like a scene out of fawlty towers. The manageress was very rude when we complained. This has put us off going to Nando's for ever."

The branch has also attracted stern criticism for the revolting food plated up.

Sharing a snap of a small, anaemic chicken breast in June 2016, one disappointed reviewer said: "Unfortunately in Holborn they seem to serve half size chicken breasts and the buns are smaller too.

A main item is enough, perhaps, for a child, but not for a regular adult customer."

However, not everyone had such a negative visit, another customer who also attended in April of this year described their stay as “amazing”.

They added: “It was a delicious dinner with the whole family. We had some chicken wings, sunset burgers and a wing platter. We can just recommend this place, also for spontaneous hungry decisions”

Another five star review said: “Incredible, the food got there really quick, but how? It’s always so delicious it normally takes longer for amazing food service is amazing, everyone is nice and are always caring.”

A Nando’s spokesperson said: "We appreciate and act on all feedback given to us and are sorry that on a small number of occasions we have not met the high standards that we and our customers expect.

"We work hard to put things right and are pleased to see this reflected in a number of positive reviews.”
